MACCLENNY, FL -- All is quiet in the Rolling Meadows neighborhood. Over the last year, the brand new subdivision has been the target of thieves a number of times.

"It's shocking to know that's been going on here," says Cleo Fox, who has lived here for the last year.

Fox is glad of one thing: the man police say did all the stealing is now behind bars. "I'm glad they caught him."

Jay Calvert, 42, of Macclenny is the bandit police believe is tied to all the burglaries.

In fact, Calvert used to work on homes in the neighborhood. "He was a sheetrock sub-contractor and that's how he'd go in and see appliances and come back at night and steal the appliances," says Baker County Sheriff Joey Dobson.

Police believe Calvert stole around $35,000 worth of refrigerators, dishwashers and microwaves.

Investigators say they found most of the goods at Calvert's home. "We found a refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher -- things they were using in their house that were stolen," says Dobson.

Police say Calvert confessed to three burglaries in the Rolling Meadows subdivision alone.

Dobson says Calvert is also tied to last month's big burglary at the Ace Hardware store in Glen St. Mary. Police say Calvert stole around $5,000 worth of lawn equipment from the garden center.

First Coast News has learned Calvert is now being looked at in a number of burglaries at construction sites in Jacksonville, too. Dobson says other counties may be involved as well.

Police believe Calvert had some help. Investigators are tracking down that person and say Calvert's family members have not been ruled out.
