JACKSONVILLE, FL -- I've never seen such community outpouring, before an emotional story airs. Thanks to many of you who called in, offering your home, rentals and hotel rooms to Hailey Trainer and her family. If she could talk, she'd thank each of you. After watching her smile light up a hospital room, you'd agree. The 16-month-old girl suffers from an Atypical Territoid Rabdoid Tumor; ATRT. It's a deadly disease comprised of brain tumors. Doctors say ATRT is very aggressive and often fatal. But somehow, this little girl is beating the odds -- and beating the cancer. Watch my video news story on this web page to hear Hailey's story and how even her doctors are amazed. Hailey, her parents Mark and Shauna Trainer, and 3 young siblings live in Atlanta. In about a month, while dad continues working in Atlanta, mom and the kids will travel with Hailey to temporarily live here on the First Coast. The high-tech machinery to be used to help shrink Hailey's remaining brain tumor, is found at the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute. Specialized tools will provide laser-guided radiology directly onto her tumor, sparing the rest of Hailey's body from any trauma. Thanks to "Iron Matt", a grass-roots cancer foundation for children with brain tumors based in Pennsylvania, Shauna and the kids will have a place in Jacksonville to stay -- free of charge. If you'd like to help with other items like travel expenses, Hailey's parents tell me they've set up a fund through The Rally Foundation for Childhood Research. Shauna says any funds left over, will be donated to Iron Matt in hopes of helping another family in need.
