BRUNSWICK, GA (AP) -- A former correctional officer at the Federal Correctional Institution in Jesup has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for taking bribes to smuggle marijuana, a cell phone, cigarettes and other contraband to inmates at the prison. Thomas C. McCoy of Baxley apologized but gave no excuse for his crime when Senior U.S. District Judge Anthony Alaimo asked if he had anything to say before being sentenced. Alaimo ordered the 25-year-old McCoy to perform 150 hours of community service while serving three years probation upon his release from prison. The judge waived a fine, which could have totaled up to $60,000.
