JACKSONVILLE, FL -- We now know the names and ages of the teenagers involved in this morning's crash on I-295 in which three people died and six more were injured.

One person, 15-year-old John Kiely, died at the scene of the crash after the Ford Explorer with nine people inside overturned several times.

Five people were taken to Shands; three were taken to Baptist.

Two of the teens taken to Shands, 15-year-old Kimber Krebbs and 17-year-old Dennis Stout, have died.

Brandon Hodges, 15, was driving. He suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Shannon Broome, 15, is hospitalized with serious injuries.

Rebecca Pilkinton, 16, was in the front passenger seat. She is in critical condition.

The following students, all 15 years old, remain in critical condition as of Friday afternoon:
Jimmy Gracia
Erin Hurst
Timothy Adam

University of Florida Physician Miren Schinco is the Chief Surgeon in the Shands Hospital Trauma Unit.

She is supervising the care of the teens brought to Shands.

"We focus a lot initially on caring for the patients and distance ourselves from the emotional side of it to get the work done. Intermittently when we have to talk to families we're brought back to reality and that is very difficult," says Schinco.

She says the three patients still in critical all have serious brain injuries and are being closely monitored.

Lt. Bill Leeper with the Florida Highway Patrol says it's likely that all people in the Explorer were Ed White High School students.

Evidence at the scene indicates they were heading to the beach.

Lt. Leeper says shortly after 8 this morning, the left rear tire separated, causing the Explorer to flip over several times.

The driver was the only person wearing a seat belt, and the other eight were all ejected.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers are on the scene still investigating. Stay with First Coast News for the latest on this developing story.
