JACKSONVILLE, FL -- You might say it was like Christmas in June for a couple of dozen young mothers and their kids Thursday at Eureka Gardens Apartments.

It was all thanks to the generosity of Trinity Baptist Church, which provided hundreds of toys, games, puzzles and more for the kids, and baby carriages, bassinets and more for the moms like Samaera Thompson, who is expecting her second child in two weeks.

"I got what I wanted," beamed Thompson. "I got me a car seat, a baby tub...I'm thankful!"

Thompson and other moms will be able to take better care of their young ones, who scoured the piles of toys for a new favorite...loading up arms with as much as could be carried.

Pastor Jerry Worthy is part of a "ministry without walls" here at Eureka Gardens.

"The bigger message is that we're trying to get people here at Eureka Gardens to know that we have resources available for them provided by churches here."

And many of the items today were to help moms educate their little ones. Scarlett Thomas found several items for her daughter.

"I got some Bibles. Something to learn about the Bible trivia. Some sidewalk chalk. Hooked on phonics -- some pretty good learning equipment!"

It was a message of generosity and hope -- not lost on moms like Samaera Thompson

"It's helping me a lot. I ain't gotta buy nothing! I'm thankful."
