JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The change is near, and the Federal Communications Commission says as of May 24, 2.25% of the households in Jacksonville are not DTV ready.
"For the most part people are knowledgeable, but we're finding there's a small percentage that don't know about it or don't understand it," says Chris Carter.
Carter works at Best Buy, one of the support partners in the DTV switch.
"We're trying to educate our customers," says Carter.
He's educating them about the switch from analog to digital. The households that are mostly likely to be affected are those using rabbit ears or an outdoor antenna.
The solution is to either purchase a new digital television, or subscribe to one of the paid services, like satellite or cable, or to buy a converter box.
The boxes cost about $50. The FCC is making $40 coupons available to households to apply to the purchase.
Households are eligible for up to two coupons by calling 1-888-388-2009.
There's also help available for those who need help installing a converter box by calling 1-888-CALL-FCC.
