JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A grassroots movement called Save Duval Schools is hammering home the message that Florida cannot afford to remain dead last in funding education.
Spokeswoman Deborah Gianoulis Heald says the non-profit organization launched in March did get the attention of some lawmakers about the need to give education a priority.
"We want to raise young Floridians who know how to think," said Heald, after pointing out Duval County received $125 less per student this year.
"It's time to call the legislature's bluff," said Heald, who promised Save Duval Schools will be more visible in leading the fight for dedicated and sustainable funding for education.
