JACKSONVILLE, FL -- 3rd graders at Love Grove Elementary used their writing and reading skills to write handwritten letters to nominate their teacher for Teacher of the Week.

The students in Deborah Holloway's 3rd grade class listen intently as their teacher reads them a story. They've all learned a lot this school year and believe Ms. Holloway is the reason they are much better readers and writers.

"The tools she uses and how she relates to them to the kids and how she responds back to her is above and beyond," said Gail Hamilton-Parker an Americorps Tutor in Holloway's class.

The students put their appreciation on paper. One 3rd grader writes, 'She is a nice teacher. She helps all the kids and explains the work so we can understand it.' Another writes, 'Ms. Holloway is a good teacher because she shows us how to read and write.'

Ms. Holloway has been teaching for 12 years. She teaches 3rd grade and after school she is an Americorps Reading Teaching. When she read some of the letters, she was touched. "It's hard to find the words. I'm excited top be teaching them again next year," said Holloway.

She will follow her students to 4th grade next year as the 4th grade teacher and as this school year draws to a close, they are all looking forward to what comes next. "It's the best feeling in the world to know they've learned something and that they respect you and that they enjoy what they're doing. That's the most important thing," said Holloway.

Congratulations on being our final Teacher of the Week for this school year. Our Teacher of the Week segment will take a break for summer vacation, but will return in the fall.
