JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A JSO officer sits nearby, while the doors to the Family Food Store on West 13th Street remain locked and closed for business.

"Reality is sinking in. The children are realizing their father is not coming back any more," says Aron Damoz, the cousin of Hagos Gebreagziabher.

Gebreagziabher, 41, was murdered Monday night in front of his wife outside his Northwest Jacksonville business. Police believe it may have been a robbery.

"He was a brave, good person, not a complainer." Damoz says his cousin, an Ethiopian immigrant, never said there were problems at his store. But according to a report obtained by First Coast News, there were plenty.

In the last twelve months, JSO was called out to the store's address 56 times. Problems ranged from a theft to two burglaries, a robbery, eight suspicious person reports, four gunfire incidents and 21 disputes.

"What shocks me the most is some person calling this many calls, something should have been done, but don't know what should have been done," says Damoz.

Just this month, JSO was called out to the store five times. One of those calls happened one day before the murder. It was a dispute.

Damoz says there was a dispute involving two teens who were shoplifting and refusing to leave the store.

He now wonders if his cousin's murder was retaliation. "Could it be, might as well be, not very sure."

Neighbors, too afraid to talk, say it is rough out here, but police are always on patrol.

"He was brave and went out like a brave man," says Damoz. He believes the killers were waiting for his cousin. "It doesn't make sense. They are cowards, whoever they are."

Police say they have no new information to release on the case.

Gebreagziabher will be buried on Sunday.
