JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Ken and Lois Roth have lived in their Dinsmore home for decades and they love it, but last August they would have liked to be in another zip code.

"Our home was flooded and severely damaged," says Ken Roth.

Since 2008 the Roths have rebuilt their modest home. Ken Roth says the loss was more than $90,000.

"We are pleased with the outcome," says Roth. But now here comes the rain again.

"We are keeping an eye on the creek, so far it is looking good,"says Roth.

The creek that runs behind their property ties into the Trout River. When the river can't handle any more water, the creek behind the Roths floods into the Roths' home.

Roth says, "We just don't want to go through that again. It is too much for any family to go through."

In nearby Nassau County, the Moores echo the same concerns.

"Since last August, every time it rains for a long period you worry about the water backing up," says Ronnie Moore.

The Moores' Nassau County home was flooded, and to stop the mold from growing, Ronnie Moore ripped out the drywall.

"We are now taking a wait-and-see attitude," says Moore.

Moore has rebuilt his home. He says it cost $20,000, and since they didn't have food insurance, he had to turn to F.E.M.A. for help.

"We are watching the sky. If it starts coming down the road, we'll start lugging out of here to be on the safe side," says Moore.

Moore says since Fay, his neighborhood has been designated a flood zone so he had no choice but to purchase flood insurance.

A Consumer Tip:

If you don't have flood insurance, now is the time to talk with your insurance agent. It takes 30 days before the coverage is effective, and once a storm is named, you cannot buy flood insurance. Your homeowners insurance policy will not cover damage from rising water.
