JACKSONVILLE, FL -- General Motors has not terminated dealers as yet, but as the automaker reinvents itself, General Motors has identified 1,100 underperforming dealers.
GM is notifying those dealers that their franchise agreement will not be renewed after October, 2010.
Local General Motors dealers waited on Friday to be contacted by the automaker. First Coast News contacted area GM dealers and they refused to confirm if they were contacted by GM.
GM says because the dealers are independently owned, GM is not releasing the names of any dealers.
GM says its dealer network has 5,969 stores and it plans to reduce that number to 3,600 by the end of 2010.
In the meantime, GM says it will continue to honor all warranties.
