ST. MARYS, GA -- Talk about enthusiastic participation! Almost all the teachers at Mary Lee Clark Elementary have rallied their students to FIGHT THE COUCH.
The teams are spreading the message of good health through the entire school.
Coach Kent Salter at Mary Lee Clark Elementary in Camden County knows how important fitness is. He has the school fired up about FIGHT THE COUCH.
In fact, Mrs. Halstead's team at Mary Lee Clark is one of the Top 10 teams right now out of more than 500 teams across the First Coast.
Of course, the Top 10 can change. Just over one week is remaining until the contest ends and big prizes are given to the top 4 teams.
Every child is a winner, though, as we encourage kids to put down the video games and enjoy physical activity.
Teachers, you must log in your team's activity minutes by 5 p.m., May 22, to be eligible for prizes.
The winning teams will be announced on May 27 on First Coast News at 6.
Health experts say one-third of children on our First Coast are obese or overweight. Fight the Couch, as part of "Kick It Up First Coast," is working to spare kids from diabetes, heart attacks and stroke.
Back to Mary Lee Clark Elementary....watch the video to see if one of the students there can beat a school record running laps in the gym. It's exciting stuff!
