FERNANDINA BEACH, FL -- Victoria Blackwell is fighting two things -- and winning.
She's rallying her students and the rest of her school to fight childhood obesity. The kids are even decorating hats and making up rap songs to FIGHT THE COUCH.
But you'll notice she has a pink ribbon on her FIGHT THE COUCH hat.
She's a vivacious breast cancer survivor who's pretty excited about her new "celebration hair," the hair coming in after chemo.
Victoria is a Buddy Check 12 success story. She found her own breast cancer and acted with intelligence.
Now she's telling everyone she can the importance of early detection.
Her school, Atlantic Elementary in Fernandina Beach, will be closing next year and the teachers will scatter to different schools.
But Victoria's inspiration to get fit and to do self exams will likely last with her fellow teachers. She's certainly poured her energy into it.
By the way, if you click on the video you'll get to hear her students' rap song for FIGHT THE COUCH, our new station project to tackle the childhood obesity issue on the First Coast.
The contest ends May 22nd; winners will be announced at 6 p.m. on May 27th.
