JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Women who work and live in the Arlington area say they are taking extra precaution.

JSO on Thursday released a sketch of a man they say may be tied to rapes in the Arlington area.

Friday afternoon, JSO said the man has been linked to five attacks, the first happened downtown in 2000.

Chief Rick Graham says the other cases happened in upper Arlington, which is the area off the Arlington Expressway to Regency and Merrill Road.

"We have five linked attacks to this particular individual that occurred over a nine-year period, with some long periods of what appears to be no activity between the incidents," says Graham.

Graham would not elaborate on the length of the gap. Graham says JSO is looking at 10 to 15 other attacks that may be linked to the man. All happened in the upper Arlington area.

JSO will not comment about the victims, except to say there are common factors in the cases.

The man is believed to be between 35 and 40 years old, rides a bike and has bad teeth. He is believed to be between 5-foot-4 and 6 feet tall.

JSO said a knife had been used to threaten the women.

Businesses along the Arlington Expressway say they have not seen extra patrols and JSO has not been to their stores alerting them.

Women working at a nearby hair salon on Merrill Road say they are on alert. They will use the buddy system for their customers and themselves.
