JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A Christian Jeweler here is concerned about the economy and those who have lost their homes and jobs. For Mother's Day, it gave away free jewelry.
"We understand what's going on and we'd like to give a helping hand," said Faith Jewelry's John Strickland.
The deal was simple, with no strings attached. A free diamond necklace if you could present a photo I.D. and proof that you are collecting unemployment or had your home foreclosed.
Word spread like wildfire, and this store in Murray Hill was surrounded long before the doors were open.
For Robert Moeller, it means mom can have a nice Mother's Day gift.
"It helps save a little money for Mother's Day, I think what they're doing our here is real great," said Moeller.
Strickland says it's a matter of showing faith to help restore faith.
"We wanted to do something for the community that offered the same sort of hope that things would be getting better that we have," said Strickland.
"And we really have the belief that God is going to provide for us and we wanted to extend that to everyone else."
Shortly after opening, all 200 necklaces were gone, but the Strickland family began giving away matching pearl bracelets and earrings.
