JACKSONVILLE, FL -- John Amrol is disputing an electric bill with the Jacksonville Electric Authority.
"I did not live there, the bill is not mine," says Amrol.
Amrol said someone stole his identity and created an account at an Arlington apartment complex on Justina Road.
Amrol lives on the Westside of the city.
"I don't feel I should have to pay anybody's bill," says Amrol.
So he called the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and filed a stolen identity report.
A few days later he was arrested for filing a false police report and on outstanding warrants for worthless checks.
"When he filed the Stolen Identity report, it was out of our hands and JSO got involved," says Gerri Boyce JEA spokesperson.
Investigators say the stolen ID report was a ruse to have the JEA erase the $1,775.31 bill.
"He said that he didn't live there, but we can prove that he had the service turned on for his son," says Boyce.
Investigators say Amrol was on the apartment lease as a person of contact and that JEA's records show Amrol's previous balance of over $1,200 was transferred from his Dulwan Drive address to the Justina Road address.
"He had a lot of options and he chose the one that got him in a lot of trouble," says Boyce.
Amrol was booked in the Duval County Jail and released in lieu of a bond.
He was unavailable for comment.
