JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The Williams family is searching for a new car. They would like an SUV, but are open to any good deal that's out there. "The main thing I'm focused on is price. It has to be something that my family's not going to be affected by," says Delaney Williams.
Williams wife, Jessica, says she is concerned about more than just price. She is worried about the economy and what kind of car will be around in the future.
Her concern is based on the news that auto giant Chrysler is filing for bankruptcy. "What about parts? A few years later can you get that part? These are kind of concerns I have with going into bankruptcy."
The Chrysler dealership on the Southside of Jacksonville refused to comment about the decision.
On the Westside of town, at Mike Shad Chrysler, the store's "clearance row" is already cleared out.
The store's parking lot has been taped off. The cars are all gone.
Its office is stocked with desks and supplies, but the staff is not there.
The manager who happened to be on site told First Coast News to contact corporate offices, with the Autonation Group, for a comment. They have not gotten back with us.
"It's gonna be hard for us to sell vehicles that could be gone in the next five years," says car salesman Mike Yorkovitch. He works at a private car lot in Regency."At the end of the day it's his decision to make, but I'll be cautious about it, that's for sure," says Jessica Williams.
The Williams say even though Chrysler has filed for bankruptcy, they are not ruling out buying one.
"If a good deal is out there, I would still look that way."
