JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Marisol Santos traded her car in a month ago. Since then, she has received hundreds of dollars in toll road violations from the Miami area. The problem is -- the cars pictured on the tickets don't belong to her. But her old license plate is attached to each car.

This all started on March 5th, when Santos traded her car in at Coggin Nissan at the Avenues in Jacksonville.

A month later, she received several toll violations from the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX). Each notice was a fine for $25. There were also pictures of the license plate and the car in violation. The license plate did belong to Santos. She had left the tag attached to the car she traded in, not knowing you must remove the tag.

"I couldn't believe it," Santos told First Coast News. "I didn't understand how this could happen when I turned in this tag with the vehicle to the dealership as a trade-in," she added.

She said the dealer never told her to remove the tag. First Coast News contacted Coggin Nissan at the Avenues but has not heard back from them.

Santos currently owes about $500 in fines and MDX told her that more fines are coming.

The tag doesn't expire until November, 2009.

She contacted several places, including the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Coggin Nissan and the Department of Motor Vehicles. Each time, Santos said she couldn't find a solution.

We contacted the DMV and they helped with part of the problem.

They said Santos should go to a local tax collector's office and cancel the registration.

Now Santos is trying to get the violations removed from her record. She hopes that she won't have to pay the fines.

"I just don't even feel responsible for this because I'm not the one who committed the crime," says Santos. "I didn't run these tolls. I didn't lend out my tag."
