NEW YORK, NY -- A lawyer says a Georgia man accused of stalking Tyra Banks was just responding to the TV personality's invitation for fans to reach out to her.

Attorney Sydney O'Hagen says Brady Green is just an overzealous fan who hoped to meet the 35-year-old Banks and be a guest on her talk show. O'Hagen spoke at opening statements in the Dublin Georgia man's stalking trial in New York City.

Prosecutor Shawn McMahon said Green appeared uninvited at Banks' Manhattan TV studios and threatened to cut an employee's throat because he wouldn't say where "The Tyra Banks Show" was taping.

Green was arrested March 18, 2008, near Banks' studios. He has pleaded not guilty to stalking, criminal trespass and harassment.

The trial will resume later this month.
