JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Recently First Coast News installed a new transmitting antenna boosting our out to 100%. Many viewers have noticed the improvement in our picture and signal strength and they are pleased.

However Ed Murfin noticed something different in our broadcast signal, he thinks its coming from the television station and it is annoying.

Murfin says, "We've been experiencing unusual noises on both 12 & 25 channels. When people stop talking, a loud background noise takes over. We purchased a new LCD HDTV and the same noise appeared on the regular cable 11 and 5 channels - none other. Can you explain why?"

Mr Murfin, our engineering staff was surprised to hear of your problem. Without going into a lengthy technical explanation of SD audio and HD audio, our engineering staff says the system has been working well.

Even so, they will look into the audio processing system of our analog signal. The staff suggest that you also look at the audio settings on your television set, is it set at 5.1 or stereo? A 5.1 setting with an analog signal will generate a lot of background noise.

On June 12 Broadcast Television will turn off its Analog signal. All programs will broadcast with a digital signal.

Digital means a sharper picture and clearer sound and multiple channels.

Our next viewer comment is from Mr. Robert Tucker about multiple channels.

Tucker says, "I just noticed there's a 25.2 channel, but it is just a loop which says First Coast News. Is this going to be a second ABC channel? "

Mr. Tucker that is the nice feature of the digital multi-casting that our viewers can enjoy. We are currently broadcasting a sports program on 25.2 but in the near future we plan to do more with 25.2 as well as 12.2. Please stay tuned.
