JACKSONVILLE, FL -- You might think kids spraying paint all over a piece of furniture would get them in trouble at school.

And, for sure, you'd figure setting a booby trap on a couch for unsuspecting people would mean a trip to the principal's office.

But at Woodland Acres those incidents were nothing bad at all.

In fact, they're creative ways to launch a school full of enthusiastic students ready to FIGHT THE COUCH.

PE teacher Susan Bell organized the clever kick-off to make sure students all had an important job -- and all saw the value of good health.

What's that mean? It means not lying around on the couch for hours and hours munching on chips and doing nothing active.

Bell even had an old couch, which was going to be thrown out anyway.

One group of students painted a "No Parking" message on the couch and set a board full of nails across the cushions.

The booby trap was a fun way to remind kids the couch isn't the place to be.

But it didn't stop there. Watch the video to see the demise of the couch!

Bell says research proves that students who are active in PE and other physical work do better in academic areas. She's a big believer in FIGHT THE COUCH to promote a healthier lifestyle.

Students at Woodland Acres each had a physical activity to demonstrate. Some played ball, others ran after a frisbee, and some even raked leaves!

Anything active counts for our contest, FIGHT THE COUCH.

More than 500 teams have registered to be in the contest for a chance to win big prizes. Of course, the best prize of all is motivating students to pay more attention to their health.

Teachers, make sure you are logging your kids' activity minutes on your page on our website.
