JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Good Friday is a day of reflection for Christians all over the world.
Many people view the day as something other than just a solemn occasion; they celebrate the day by doing good in the community.
One First Coast News viewer e-mailed us about some young ladies she saw hiding plastic Easter eggs at Hemming Plaza. When the viewer opened up one of the eggs, there was a dollar bill, a piece of hard candy and a note that said "Jesus Saves." The viewer says, "they were trying to give the less fortunate a little ray of sunshine for Easter."
Others, including Ron Spella, are giving back in any way possible. He found a small toy drive in Riverside where he donated some money to help terminally-ill children.
"I grew up in an old-fashioned, traditional, Christian family," says Spella. "I believe that whenever you help somebody else, it's going to come back to you in some good way down the road."
Matthew Kirsch also decided to do what he could to help others.
"I made a little cash donation," says Kirsch, who has a 2-year-old niece with cancer. "I care about people so I just wanted to do some good."
Good Friday is the Friday within Holy Week and commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.
