TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- The NCAA has denied Florida State's request to grant senior receiver Corey Surrency another year of eligibility.

Florida State says it will appeal Monday's decision and expects to have a final resolution in three to five weeks. Coach Bobby Bowden declined to comment on the NCAA's decision after Monday's practice.

Surrency transferred to Florida State from El Camino Community College in California last summer. He lost a year of eligibility because he played for the Florida Kings -- a South Florida semipro team -- after he turned 21 and before he enrolled at El Camino.

Surrency caught 12 passes for 237 yards last season, tying for the team lead with four touchdown catches.
