
JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Autism now affects 1 in 150 children in this country. And, a brand new study from Cambridge in the United Kingdom shows even more shocking statistics. It shows that 1 in 60 children in the UK is affected by this disorder.
To bring hope and awareness to the many affected on the First Coast, many non-profits are holding events during April, which is Autism Awareness month. These events span from Brunswick to Ponte Vedra. If you know of an event I have not listed below, please let me know so I can include it.
On Friday, April 3rd, the Little Star Center is hosting a Bowl-A-Thon event at Beach Bowl at 818 Beach Blvd. Start time is 8:00 p.m. CLICK HERE for more information.
On Saturday, April 4th, Parents of Autism/ADHD Coming Together is hosting its first annual JamPACT festival. It's an event for the whole community. It runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Camden County Recreation Track (behind the High School). Just CLICK HERE for more information.
On Wednesday, April 8th, Whole Foods Market on San Jose Blvd. is donating 5% of the day's net sales to HEAL (Healing Every Autistic Life).
On Sunday, April 29th, Bailey's Powerhouse Gym is holding its Second Annual Cycle for Autism. For more information, contact Michele Weyer.
On Saturday, April 25th, the Triumph Foundation is hosting "A Walk in the Park for Autism in Brunswick." Registration is at 10 a.m. in Mallory Park. CLICK HERE for more information.
Also on Saturday, April 25th, the 2nd Annual Ride with Me for Autism cycling event will take place at the Baldwin Rail Trail at 1804 Imeson Road. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. This event benefits the Jessica Green Foundation. CLICK HERE for more information.
