Teachers, register your class to Fight the Couch. Your class could win big prizes. And you can inspire your students to put down those video controllers and get moving.

Some schools already joining:
Chimney Lakes, LaVilla, Hogan-Spring Glen, Hendricks Avenue, Pine Forest, Bartram Trail High School, San Mateo, Charles E. Bennett, Callahan Elementary, Julington Creek, PVPV/Rawlings, Greenfield, Cunningham Creek, Atlantic Elementary (Fernandina), Jacksonville Heights

How do we register?
Visit the Kick It Up First Coast section on firstcoastnews.com. The contest runs April 6th - May 22nd. (You must read and fax us the affidavit and register to participate.)

Who wins?
Everyone! You'll cheer on your students, no doubt. They'll feel better. Plus, the four classes with the most "activity minutes" win prizes.

- Free tickets to Busch Gardens/Tampa

- Free day at Adventure Landing/Jacksonville

- Free tennis shoes for entire class (1st Place Sports)

- $20 gift cards to Dick's Sporting Goods

What are "activity minutes?"
Anything off the couch! Run the track, walk the dog, shoot hoops, zip around at soccer practice.... at school and at home...

Name your team!
A team is one adult sponsor (most likely a teacher) and up to 35 kids. Be the Jumpin' Jets or the Walking Wonderful...whatever. Be creative!

The cool part! Your own Team Tracker
We've set up a special tracking site so you can have fun putting in your students' activity minutes each week. Each week just log onto your custom page. You can even put in photos. Schools can keep their own students and pictures private. The site allows multiple teams to register from the same school.

The top 10 teams around the First Coast will be listed for everyone to see on our website. (For security we'll make the public list by team name, only, not student names.)

Use our logo for posters or whatever!
You can download the Fight the Couch logo for free when you register.

Can our students be on TV or the First Coast New website?
I'll do my best to get you on TV. If you're doing something especially awesome just email me at jblaylock@firstcoastnews.com. I may not get to everyone, but I'll try! You can also upload video or photos to our website to share with everyone.

Your kids will love this! And we're tackling a serious issue. Experts tell me 1 in 3 kids on the First Coast is overweight or obese. Let's work now to spare them from diabetes, heart disease, stroke and just the embarrassment of being called, "fat." That word hurts.

I'm working with Nemours Children's Clinic, the Duval Childhood Obesity Coalition, Rick Kane (P.E. head for Duval Schools) and others.

I can't wait to get rolling! Be sure to watch our stories this week on First Coast News!
