ST. AUGUSTINE, FL -- A 3rd grader at Timberlin Creek Elementary is the school's top fundraiser for the American Heart Association. She's collected toys and books for needy kids in Kentucky and she's a competitive gymnast.

Emerson Hurst has dozens of medals from winning competitions in gymanstics. In competition, she's a powerhouse. She received a gold medal for winning the best all round champion for her age group in the state.

"She is a gifted athlete but she also works really hard to be the best," said Cindy Anderson, a Physical Education Teacher at Timberlin Creek Elementary.

Hurst gives it her all and does her best no matter what she's doing whether it's competing in gymnastics or raising money for the American Heart Association. She's been the top fundraiser at her school and she does it for her grandmother. "My grandma had heart problems but now she's better," said Hurst.

The 3rd grader also performed on stage recently in The Sound of Music at the Alhambra Dinner Theatre; and, she collected toys, books and supplies for kids in need in Kentucky. "I wanted everyone to be equal and they didn't have that much. They didn't have a library in the school; and no books," said Hurst.

For such a young kid, she has a big heart and that's why her P.E teacher nominated her for Student of the Week. "She's a hard worker. She comes ready to work. She's always positive and smiling and she's just a joy to be around, " said Anderson.
