JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Jobs are hard to find these days, but a new Wal-Mart Supercenter will ease some of the unemployment pain today. A new store is opening and today, March 2, people can start applying for jobs.

The new Wal-Mart is going up on Philips Highway near the Avenues Mall. There are lots of businesses in the area, some of which are struggling to stay afloat in this bad economy.

Wal-Mart plans to hire 400 people for full-time and part-time positions. There's expected to be a lot of people seeking those jobs. "We should have very many applicants to pick from and a lot of positions to fill. We're asking everybody to apply online. It's quicker that way," said Store Manager Scott Mallatt.

A temporary hiring center has been set up down the street from the new store at 6104 Gazebo Place. It will start accepting applications today, March 2nd.

Wal-Mart is hoping most people will apply online. Interested applicants can apply online by CLICKING HERE.

The new Wal-Mart Supercenter is set to open in the spring but new employees will start working in April to get the store ready for shoppers.
