JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Today you can get a good deal on breakfast food. From 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. participating IHOP restaurants are giving away a short stack of pancakes.

And, it's all done in celebration of National Pancake Day, which also ties in with the tradition of Mardi Gras or Shrove Tuesday.

In the U.K. folks celebrate Shrove Tuesday by making pancakes and flipping them. Shrove is the past tense of the word shrive which means to abstain or seek absolution.

With the Lenten season beginning tomorrow for Christians, today is all about indulging yourself before abstaining. Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday the start of 40-day period of Lent which leads up to Easter. During Lent many Christians will fast or give up something.

If you do take part in IHOP's celebration today, they ask that you make a donation to the Children's Miracle Network.
