JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A fourth-grade student at Thomas Jefferson Elementary works hard at school and plays hard after school.

Ten-year old Megan Portello makes good grades in class and she also has a yellow belt in karate. She is a cheerleader, and she plays soccer.

She has three trophies. Pointing to the academic trophy she says, "This one I got from this school for having all A's last year throughout the year."

She also has two soccer trophies.

Her favorite subject at school is math because she says, she's good at it. When asked if she has to work hard at making good grades she answered, "It's a little bit of both. Sometimes school is hard and sometimes it's easy."

Megan is in the gifted program at school and she's an honor student. "She's an outstanding student and a good representative of the school. She works hard," said her 4th Grade Teacher, Barbara Caruso.

Even at 10-years old, Megan already knows what she wants to be when she grows up. "I want to be a marine biologist because I love working with underwater animals."

In the nomination letter for Student of the Week, Megan is described as someone who is always helpful and works hard.
