JACKSONVILLE, FL -- They're the future of Jacksonville -- thousands of school children yearning and learning.
But cutbacks at the head of the class could cause teaching trouble.
"This is one of the first times that our students who are graduating are having trouble finding positions," says Larry G. Daniel, UNF's education dean.
At UNF's Education wing, these seniors all want to be teachers. They're starting internships at Jacksonville public schools this week and will be exchange students in England.
Dean Larry Daniel says just two years ago, the state said schools weren't pumping out teachers fast enough. Now, state legislators could cut school funding by $500 million.
"With this present year what we've learned is that district have had to cut back on the number of teaching positions that they're able to hire," Daniel told First Coast News' Erich Spivey.
