JACKSONVILLE, FL -- 70-year-old Wilbert Small had one heck of a morning while heading home on 95-north. As he rounded the curve by the I-10 interchange, his windshield literally exploded!

"At first I didn't realize what had happened," said Small. "Some glass got in my eyes and in the side of my face."

In the pouring rain he somehow managed to pull off the road.

"I don't know how I really hold that truck like I did to keep from running into the wall and having an accident. I guess cause of the rain we wasn't going that fast and the cars in back of me slowed off of me and give me the opportunity to come off to the side," said Small.

At the hospital, the shock cleared and Small began to remember what he thinks happened on that rainy construction-filled curve.

"I realized where the men was working at, something come from -- I don't know if they was backing up something, but that's what hit that side of my window. It was something like a bar or a piece of equipment," said Small.

"And the more I look at it, (the shattered windshield and door window) the more I realize I'm is blessed! I'm is blessed!"

His wife agrees.

"So it was a blessing to know it wasn't as bad as it could have been," said Small's wife, Cynthia.

Tonight Wilbert and Cynthia Small are grateful to head home to share one more night together, knowing things might have been far different.

"I feel blessed. I guess we call it lucky, but I want to call it blessed because just a little bit more it could have come in the windshield and probably could have killed me."

If you may have witnessed Small's windshield and door window being smashed, you are asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol.
