JACKSONVILLE BEACH, FL -- Police are adding extra patrols and manpower hoping to stop an armed robber who has hit five businesses in the past four weeks.

Diana Robertson and her boyfriend were the first ones to stare down the barrel of the robber's gun. It was just after nightfall on November 4th at the Inkstainz Tattoo Parlor.

For the 24-year-old Robertson, a month has passed, but the fear remains.

"Being paranoid. Looking over my shoulder wondering if the guy next to me is the guy that just robbed me."

In all five robberies, the gunman had a hoodie sweatshirt over his head and a bandana covering all of his face. The victims only saw his eyes, and the black gun held in a gloved hand.

"And he's entering the store by himself with the weapon displayed. His head and his face are covered up and he exits just as quickly as he goes in," said Detective Sergeant Mark Evans.

Three days after the tattoo parlor was robbed, the Rapunzel Salon, 200-feet away, was robbed. In the weeks that followed, the Salon has undergone an expensive security upgrade.

"I've installed lots of lighting to light the parking lot. I've installed a camera system," said owner Sherry Diedrich.

Though the bandit only got thirty dollars cash, Deidrich has since held security meetings with her staff, changed the hours of operation, and spent thousands of dollars hoping to make her livelihood safer.

"The security camera has been my best investment so far. We can see people before they come inside on our monitor inside the salon," said Diedrich.

"It's very sad, but it's worth it because I want to keep my clients and my staff safe."

The owner of the Jax Beach Board Shop, a surf shop, declined to be interviewed after being robbed. His store is just down the street from the tattoo parlor and salon.

He told First Coast News he is also closing his business an hour earlier. His doorbell "used" to mean potential business, but now the sound raises the hair on his neck.

Jacksonville Beach Police have increased manpower on the streets with hopes of ending the one-man crime spree.

"Patrol has increased. We are working special details of a special nature that I just can't disclose. We do have assistance from other agencies from within the area," said Evans.

Police say they are certain the robber is the same in all five cases, including a T-Mobile store and the nearby Best Western Hotel, robbed over this past weekend.

Evans says with extra manpower and extra patrols, they hope to nail their suspect before he strikes again or before somebody gets hurt.

"We want to make an apprehension, make a case and get this person off the streets and get him locked up behind bars where he deserves to be," said Evans.

It is a sentiment shared by Diana Robertson.

"I hope he gets caught before he hurts somebody!"
