JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Two people are dead in two separate crashes while Tropical Storm Fay moves through the First Coast Friday.

Lt. Bill Leeper with the Florida Highway Patrol says one person was killed in a crash on U.S.1 at Church Road in Nassau County.

Lt. Leeper says the driver, Sergio Constantino, 19, of Tijuana, Mexico, was heading in the southbound lanes when a large maple tree fell onto the roadway hitting the vehicle. Both occupants of that car where transported to Shands Jacksonville. He says the passenger, Roberto Constantino, 27, also of Tijuana, died at the hospital. Sergio Constantino is in critical condition.

That crash happened around 10 a.m.

Lt. Leeper says the other fatality was in a crash on Interstate 95 near Duval Road. It happened around noon.

Investigators say a truck driver lost control of the pick-up, for an unknown reason. The truck went off onto the shoulder and hit a sign post. The driver did at the scene.

Lt. Leeper says it's important that drivers stay off the roads if at all possible.
