
DUVAL COUNTY, FL -- Two semi trucks collided on Interstate 10 just west of U.S. 301.
Lt. Bill Leeper with the Florida Highway Patrol says a semi truck carrying a load of chicken meat had pulled over in the emergency lane on the eastbound side. He says the driver was then trying to get back up to speed to merge with traffic.
That is when another semi truck (this one carrying mail) side-swiped the first truck.
The trailer of the mail truck separated from the cab. The cab of the semi caught on fire.
The tractor-trailer carrying the load of chicken meat overturned in the ditch on the side of the road.
Lt. Leeper says thankfully no one was hurt in the crash.
The collision happened around 3:30 a.m. on Friday.
One eastbound lane of I-10, about a mile west of U.S. 301, was blocked for about 4 hours. All anes of I-10 are now open.
Lt. Leeper tells First Coast News, charges are pending against both drivers. The charges include illegally stopping and careless driving.
