JACKSONVILLE, FL -- This Father's Day may be more creative than ever because for many families money is tight this year.
The National Retail Federation says higher gas and grocery prices might be cutting into Father's Day plans. So it's no surprise that the big trend in gifts for dad this year is a push towards creative and inexpensive ways to honor fathers.
Several First Coast News viewers submitted their ideas for dads on www.firstcoastnews.com. One viewer suggested making a collage poster of favorite photos with dad.
These printed collages are very popular right now. Web sites like www.snapfish.com and www.shutterfly.com allow users to upload the photos, add words and order the print.
Local stores such as Costco, Target and Walgreens also offer collage print services. But some of these stores go through companies like Snapfish or Shutterfly. So check with the stores to see how long the item will take to create.
The collage posters come in a variety of sizes and start around $3.
If you want to add an extra touch to picture for dad you can put an audio clip on the back of any picture frame. Most frame or craft stores sell the audio clips for about $3. They stick to the frame and you can record your own personal message for dads.
There are also many ideas that are free or nearly free:
Go for a Hike with dad.
Put on a family talent show.
Ask the father figure in your life to teach you something like how to throw a baseball, fishing or fixing cars.
Do extra chores around the house for dad.
Have a movie day at home with dad.
Make a picnic for him.
Frame a classic quote that he always says.
Request a local radio station to play a song for one of the dads in your life.
