JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Making a big splash into summer is all about finding the right swimsuit. This year it's all about the color.
"It's really bright colors," says Jessica Podloski with Aqua East in Neptune Beach. "Yellows and blues, those sorts of colors are really big."
Also popular this season is mix and match bathing suits.
"Everyone wants versatility in their swimsuits," says Podloski. "They want to be able to buy three pieces and wear it six ways." That's why there are many reversible tops and bottoms on the swim racks this year.
Paige Jones is a mother of three so she needs a suit that allows her to be active. "When I'm active and playing football on the beach I want it (swimsuit) to be supportive in all the right places," says Jones.
For active women like Jones who are looking for coverage, Podloski recommends a one piece suit. Details such as a v-neck or bold colors can help flatter the body.
Jones chose a one-piece from La Blanca that costs $119. "It has a plunging neckline to add to the fashion of the one piece," says Podloski. "But it has great coverage and is very flattering."
Women can get coverage and still go for the two piece suits. Podloski recommends trying a tankini with an open back like the one from De La Mer. "It's great for running around and sunning," says Podloski.
Ladies can also hide any concerns with their thighs or butts by wearing a skirted bottom. This is also good for women who want to wear their suits to events.
"One of the biggest trends for men's swimwear this year is the technical board shorts," says Podloski.
Shane Murray choose O'neill's Superfreak boardshorts. As technical boardshorts they have stretch panels and neoprene where performance is needed most.
"Personally I look for something flashy that's also functional," says Murray.
O'neill's Superfreak boardshorts cost $58 at Aqua East.
"New for the guys this year it's all about the color," says Podloski. "80's inspired colors, neons, and wild prints. The wilder the better for the guys."
This year the little guys can even get cool boardshorts. For toddlers and infants Quicksilver has now come out with a line of board shorts for about $30 at Aqua East.
For the little girls, there are many swimsuits mimicking the popular trends like bright colors.
Some of last year's trends are on their way out. "We are seeing a trend away from the matchy-matchy cover-ups that go with the bathing suits," says Podloski.
"People are still wearing cover ups but they are being more neutral so they can throw it on with any swimsuit."
