JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Starting today (April 28th) the outside northbound lane on the Dames Point Bridge will be closed for about a year.
It's part of the on-going project to repaint the bridge. One southbound lane will continue to by closed until the end of 2008.
There is also a new merge pattern for northbound traffic coming onto the bridge from Merrill Road or Southside Boulevard. According to Florida's Department of Transportation, this is to make room for the placement of traffic information signs about the construction.
The new merge pattern will be closer to Merrill Road and Southside Boulevard than the current merge location.
The bridge repainting project started in February of 2007. It's expected to be finished in spring of 2009.
