JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Five people were killed in three crashes on the First Coast early Friday morning.
The first accident happened in Palatka around 12:30 a.m. Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol say three people died in the crash. It happened on Bardin Road near Comer Road.
Bardin Road was closed for about 7 hours for the investigation. The roadway is now open.
Then around 2 a.m. there was a single vehicle crash on the ramp from Interstate 95 to Interstate 295 on Jacksonville's Southside. Troopers say the 31-year-old Angela Harper lost control of her 3-door Saturn and hit the guardrail. There were 2 adults and 5 children from ages 13 to 17 in the vehicle.
According to FHP's report, 13-year-old Jesse Harper was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The other 6 people were taken to the hospital for serious injuries.
FHP troopers say no one in the car was wearing a seat belt and they say the crash was alcohol related.
In St. Johns County, one person is dead in a single vehicle crash on State Road 13. It happened around 2 miles north of County Road 16A around 3:30 a.m.
S.R. 13 was closed for just over three hours but all lanes are now open.
FHP is still investigating all three crashes and has not released details on what caused the accidents or the names of the victims.
