JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The winds have really picked up now that the freezes are gone. It will be windy with highs near the mid 50s. So far, the freeze is happend west and northwest of downtown Jacksonville. Winds are going to whip out of the east at 17 with gusts to near 30 mph.

During the morning the increased winds kept the wind chills in the 20's for areas north and west of downtown Jacksonville. East and south of there, those same winds kept temps well above freezing in many location. The airport froze for about an hour. Temps fell into the 20s at Waycross and Homerville. Macclenny, Live Oak and Lake City fell below 32 for at least two hours. East and south of downtown temps are well above freezing.

This should be the coldest morning of the work week as temperatures will moderate through Thursday. Mid 40s are expected overnight into Tuesday.

This all comes into play after a sunny day Sunday which replaced Saturday?s rain. Gainesville had record rainfall of 1.79? breaking the old one set in 1991 of 1.12 inches. Heavy rain fell Saturday resulting in 1.34" in San Marco, 1.02" JIA, 1.09" JAX Beach, and 1.06" at Craig Field.

The bad weather that came through Saturday did knock down trees and powerlines in Alachua County, produced hail in St. Johns County and some trees downed near Green Cove Springs.

A funnel was sighted in Putnam county near Satsuma.

This all started with a line of strong thunderstorms in the easter Gulf of Mexico from near Cedar Key to west of Ft. Meyers. Some of these thunderstorms produced wind gusts to 60 mph on the open waters. Keep in mind the watch means potential for tornados and thunderstorms with winds over 50 mph and hail.
