'Greatest Dog Show' raises thousands for Operation Orion

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Local professional photographer Beverly Pye says she grew up a "military brat" and now she believes we wouldn't be Americans with the freedoms we have if it weren't for our veterans. So she created "The Greatest Dog Show on Earth" to raise money to help veterans through Operation Orion/K9s for Warriors. Now her fundraising totals are in.

The event raised $1299 which turns into a donation of $2598 with the Weaver match. Right now the Weaver Foundation is doubling contributions to Operation Orion.

The "Greatest Dog Show" in the Julington Creek area at Baptist Primary Care featured a dog wash, doggie massage, "pet-i-cures" for canines, a best-dressed contest, doggie ice cream, and all sorts of activities for pets and pet owners.

Operation Orion is a First Coast News project to raise funds for K9s for Warriors, a local non-profit which gives custom-trained service dogs to veterans with PTSD or TBI (traumatic brain injury).

A big hats off to Pye who stepped up to the plate to offer help. Even though her career is professional photography with her business, SnappyShots by Bev, she donated all her time and photographs to Operation Orion.

You can see a photo gallery of the event on our website.
