LEESBURG, VA -- More than biting cold, the fierce wind is deadly and is blamed on the death of 15-year-old Jennifer Elizabeth Zilke.
Around 3 o'clock on Valentine's Day the teenager, her father and younger sibling were in their front yard on Foggy Bottom road in Bluemont. A wind gust broke part of a tree that struck the teen as it fell to the ground. The sophomore from Loudoun Valley High School was rushed to INOVA Loudoun Hospital and pronounced dead.
Throughout Loudoun County trees are coated with ice and the side roads are barely drivable, conditions that are simply dangerous. Doctors at Loudoun Community Hospital Center have seen almost a 20% increase in the emergency room, most from vehicle accidents and from falling on the ice.
