JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A man accused of imprisoning his nine-year-old son and watching his every move through a surveillance system is now being held on $1 million bond.

Randall Piercy appeared in front of a judge in Jacksonville Thursday morning.

Piercy is accused of holding his nine-year-old son prisoner in their Mandarin home.

Investigators allege he did not allow the boy to go to school or receive medical care.

Police say Piercy wired video cameras in almost every room of the house to watch his son.

But in an interview with First Coast News, his wife Michelle Piercy says Randall Piercy is a loving father.

"Maybe some things we were doing weren't right, were overprotective, certainly not abuse at all, no," she said.

Mrs. Piercy says the cameras were in the house to make sure her son is safe because he is hyperactive.

"Yes we're very protective, very protective, the reason the cameras were there was to make sure he didn't hurt himself or do something wrong," she claimed.

"He can come and go anytime, I can see him whenever I want," says the boy's mother.

She says Sheriff's Office reports are wrong, her son does go to school, he's homeschooled.

She says he does receive medical care, and actually made a trip to the doctor with his father earlier this week.

First Coast News has learned that child is under an emergency shelter order, which means he cannot have any contact with either parent.

Randall Piercy's arraignment is set for November 2.

"I cannot believe this is happening, he is the most loving person I know," said Mrs. Piercy.
