JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Former Jacksonville Jaguars star wide receiver Jimmy Smith was booked on multiple drug charges, according to an inmate log at the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Smith is facing five charges: knowingly operating a vehicle with a suspended, canceled or revoked license; possessing or selling a controlled substance; cocaine possession; possession of 20 grams or less of cannabis; and use of drug paraphernalia.
According to entertainment Web site TMZ, Smith was pulled over by Florida Highway Patrol troopers near the intersection of Golfair Blvd. and Interstate 95. Photos on TMZ.com show Smith being handcuffed and led into a cruiser.
The inmate log shows Smith was admitted into the jail at 8:13 p.m. He is being held on $5,006 bond. His first court appearance is Thursday morning at 9 a.m.
The former Jaguars All-Pro wide receiver has had drug problems in the past.
Smith faced DUI charges last year. During that traffic stop, officers found traces of marijuana.
The league suspended him in 2003 for violating the substance abuse policy.
Two years earlier, a Jacksonville Sheriff's officer pulled Smith over for speeding. The arresting officer believed Smith was under the influence. Tests showed Smith had traces of metabolized cocaine in his system.
Smith denied using the drug. He was never charged because his blood alcohol level was below the legal limit.
His most recent public appearance came at a farewell for fellow star Fred Taylor in April.
Smith is considered the most prolific receiver in Jaguars history. In fact, when the team signed Torry Holt this week, many considered Holt the first chance at a star receiver since Smith left.
Smith, 40, holds many Jaguars records, including most games played (170), most starts (150), most receptions (862) and most receiving yards (12,287).
