POOLER, Ga. -- More than two dozen World War II veterans gathered to share stories and to admire a nearly restored aircraft at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Pooler, just outside Savannah.

The Savannah Morning News reports that the men, who served with the 388th Bombardment Group, celebrated their unit's 63rd annual reunion this week.

The centerpiece of an exhibit at the museum is a massive, almost fully restored World War II-era bomber.

Memories nearly seven decades old flew through the minds of the veterans Thursday afternoon, as they shared some of their experiences flying missions over Germany and France in B-17 Flying Fortresses nearly identical to the museum's plane.
