JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A timely donation is helping complete a mission that started in mid-December with 3,650 wreaths laid at the headstones of veterans at Jacksonville's National Cemetery.
This morning, the Patriot Guard Riders were trying to find someone to help defray the expense of dumpsters needed to dispose of the weathered wreaths.
Until a mysterious donor came to the rescue.
"As it was phrased to me, it was veterans helping veterans," said Ralph Terreault, a spokesperson for the Patriot Guard.
Terreault said he had little success finding help until he got a call from the National Cemetery saying that someone who wanted to remain anonymous was willing to pay the bill.
Terreault said the mission is now complete. On Saturday morning, volunteers plan to gather the wreaths, put them in the donated dumpster and the cemetery won't have to incur the expense of disposing of them.
In December, the challenge will be even greater as the Patriot Guard expects to need 5,000 wreaths for the holiday cause.
