Mayor Curry: Beaches and A, B, C evacuation zones need to leave now: This is a direct order

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry spoke to the media Thursday morning and said the  Beaches and A, B, C evacuation zones need to leave now, it is mandatory. 

"I am being very clear," Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry said. "If you are in Zone A or B, this is a direct order. Your life is in danger."

SHELTERS 

Yesterday, Curry only issued the evacuation notice for zones A and B, mostly low lying and riverfront areas of Jacksonville. 

"To show you how serious this is, I am adding Zone C to the evacuation, due to the storm surge," Curry said. "This is a serious storm," Curry said. 

Curry told residents in the media briefing that he will close the city for non-essential personnel Thursday and Friday.

"We need to evacuate the beaches," Curry said. 

Hurricane Matthew is headed to the First Coast with 120 mph winds.
