Traffic moving again after Westside accident

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- I-295 NB between Normandy Blvd and the I-10 EB exit ramp was blocked for 3 hours Wednesday due to a crash with injuries.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a black pickup truck traveling southbound along I-295 crossed into the northbound lanes, striking two vehicles. Two people who were riding in the truck were ejected.

The passenger of the Chevron pick-up truck, a 17-year-old girl, was ejected from the vehicle and was taken to a local hospital. According to FHP, she died Thursday as a result of her injuries. The driver is still in critical condition.

The driver of 1998 Dodge van traveling northbound was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with severe injuries.

The FHP is continuing an investigation into the crash in hopes of determining the cause. The roadways were wet during the time of the accident. It is not being ruled out as a possible cause.

Drivers headed in that direction should expect major delays in their commute.
