Woman identified in weekend fatal crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jessica L. Depontes, 28, died in a fatal car accident early Saturday morning.

The deadly crash happened around 7 a.m. on University Boulevard between Commerce Street and Arlington Road, according to JSO.

According to our news partner the Florida Times Union, a witness told police that the driver of a white Jeep Cherokee was headed southbound on University at a "high rate of speed" when the car veered into the northbound lanes and struck a concrete JEA pole, said JSO Sgt. Terrence James.

University Boulevard between Commerce Street and Arlington Road were closed in both directions for several hours and reopened around 10 a.m.

Two more serious crashes were also reported Saturday before noon.

Two lanes of Interstate 95 south near 8th Street were closed due to an accident. The lanes were shut down for around an hour, according to JSO.

JSO was also working a one vehicle crash at 1200 W. Edgewood Avenue around 8 a.m. Two victims in that crash were transported to the hospital. One had life threatening injuries, according to the Times-Union.
