Vigil held for two female victims of gun violence

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- The families and friends of two women who were killed last year gathered for a candlelight vigil Sunday night in Orange Park.

Exactly three months ago Sunday, 27-year old JillianBerrios was shot and killed outside of an Orange Park apartment complex. Six months ago Sunday, 22-year-old Amber Bass was shot and killedin her own driveway on the Westside.

Berrios' family members say they believe she was being followed after she left a dance club the night of Oct. 19. Berrios had two children, ages 4 and 8.

"She was greatness. She was a good friend, she was a great mom, and these kids they miss her so much," said Zulma, a close friend of Berrios. "I just want to ask the people, if she was your sister, if she was your mother, your kids, what would you do? What would you want people to do?"

Berrios' and Bass' families have come together for support. Bass' parents have showed determination in getting the word out about her case and are hoping someone will come forward with any information about what happened on Springtree Road July 19.

"She was just in the prime of her life and for somebody just to do this it's just really, as a father I am still tore up," said Keith Bass, Amber's father. "I don't think I will ever be able to get over, I just want, she was my baby."

About 40 people, including the father of slain teenager Jordan Davis, Ron Davis, gathered near the site of Berrios's death in Orange Park and held signs bearing the faces of Bass and Berrios.

"You can never begin to heal unless you know who did it and why," said Davis. "And for the family, I'll help them and I'll support and fight with them, fight for them, for Jillian."
