Tornado touches down near Lake City, takes trees with it

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- Officials in Columbia County confirmed a tornado touched down just outside of Lake City around 9 a.m. Thursday morning.

The strength of the tornado is unknown, but it was powerful enough to cause significant damage to an outbuilding, uproot multiple large trees and impale buildings with large pieces of lumber, according to the National Weather Service.

Multiple trees fell near the intersection of Pinemount Road and SW Koonville Avenue. The debris shut down roads in the area for hours.

Neighbors said no homes were damaged by the storm.

The approximate width of the tornado was 50 yards, with a .75 mile path.
